PSI SCIENCE THEORY Viewed on the scale of quantum physics, matter and vacuum look much alike. Both are energetic - matter is simply more energetic by a huge factor. Only in the past fifty years have cutting edge lab instruments been sensitive enough to detect more subtle differences on this scale. A photon is simply a structure of quantum bits which behaves in a certain way on the molecular scale. There is a weaker structure associated with information and consciousness. This weaker structure can have strong impacts on the quantum scale, but until recently sufficient energy was not available for it to have a measurable impact on the scale of matter. Or rather, the impact was measurable, but not by most instruments. The exact behaviors of this structure have been difficult to nail down, although some essential numbers have been determined. 1. Thermodynamics DOES Apply. Psi powers generate very little waste heat (about 1%), but they do generate it. 2. Psi has mass. The entire mind of a powerful psi has been estimated at slightly less than a gram (based on measurements made in JSpace), but this is apparently a critical mass for the energy structures necessary for current thresholds. 3. Psi obeys conservation of matter and energy. However, strong information structures appear to be well designed for "borrowing" energy from local space-time in small amounts. Threshold is a measure of how much energy the psi can borrow at a time. The ripples can be detected in the gravity field, but are so slight as to be almost invisible to most sensors. The ripples are far more evident in zero G. LABS Psi Clean Room This is an isolated room crammed with sensors, mostly gravimetric and thermal sensitive devices. The room is completely cut off from as much energy as possible, and is a vacuum - the psi enters the room in a spacesuit. Several minutes are taken to adjust for the energy put off by the psi's own mass and body energy before the subjcet begins using psi abilities. At the moment, detecting actual USE of psi has become routine in these rooms. What researchers are trying to do now is find the patterns that identify different types of psi use. Eventually, the hope is that they will be able to create a visual reference for what the psi is doing. Mind Sensing Two JSpace psis are needed for this methodology. One astrally projects, and the other pulls a spherical chamber into JSpace. The astrally projecting psi enters the chamber, where various sensors are applied. Detecting the psi within this chamber has become trivial. Researchers are now attempting to reach the point where they can scan. This experiment has also been used in conjunction with a psi clean room, but the presence of the JSpace psi makes this more difficult, and power considerations make it far more costly. Psimeter This is a handheld device which is sensitive to gravity disturbances. It functions in a manner similar to a geiger counter, telling you only how strong the gravity ripple is at its location. It becomes erratically inaccurate when it is moving rapidly (more than 1 m/sec) through a gravity field. Schroedinger's Box This is a "psi clean room" in a box, except that no psi enters it at all, except with clairevoyance. This has mostly been used to test the observer effect. OTHER TECHNOLOGY Psimeter The psimeter is used outside the labs, primarily for security. Most "psi secure" rooms have a psimeter with the sensitivity cranked up to maximum. This won't stop any psis from listening in, but it will alert people in the room that this is happening. Quantum Static Generator A primitive quantum neural net which does nothing but process huge amounts of energy rapidly. This is an extremely expensive way to generate "psi static", but it does make "listening in" extremely difficult for a psi. A typical QSG burns through 500 joules per second, and gives a -3 to any ESP activity in the area (each doubling of energy gives an additional -1). QSGs do not generate any psi activity of their own - they just make a lot of noise in the bandwidths that psis listen on. They do not affect PK or similar effects. JSpace Cyberlink This is essentially a power source plugged straight into the brain. It is very dangerous if it is not carefully calibrated to the psi, and can only be used for JSpace (since the power must be shunted by the psi into a JSpace "bubble"). Careful measurements of the psi's unboosted capabilities are made, and then the cyberlink calibrated to a hair under two million times that. Then the energy level is very slowly raised, with the psi shunting it and then saying "stop" when the psi begins to reach his limit. Once calibrated, it can be used without fear. Using a cyberlink is exhausting, depending on how much energy it is producing. Roughly, if the psi is using 500 thousand times his own threshold, he can maintain concentration with the cyberlink for eight hours. Doubling the energy quarters the time he can maintain concentration.
