Basic Economics
Prior to any other considerations, one piece of silver weighs one-tenth of an ounce, and is worth a full day's work by an unskilled laborer. One piece of copper weighs half an ounce, and eight coppers is worth one silver. One piece of gold weighs a quarter ounce, and is worth 50 silvers.
Special Materials defined in GURPS
Mithril: Mithril is a ductile, highly reactive, dark blue metal. Relatively pure oxidized mithril is bluish-white, but mithril is almost always found as an impurity in hematite (such hematite is dark green).
Mining mithril-impregnated hematite takes approximately twice as long, and requires special techniques to smelt. During the smelting process, the mithril tends to burn and explode in small quantities on the surface, becoming part of the slag. It can then be smelted separately in special clay pits, separating it from the rest of the slag, and yielding a fragile metal.
Mithril is usually alloyed with steel (1 part mithril per 200 parts steel) or reduced to powder. Mithril steel has a density of 7.0 and DR 90 per inch, making it ideal for armor (mithril steel armor can provide the same protection as normal steel at about 72% the weight). Mithril powder is an excellent explosive, and is used to power very expensive firearms of various sorts.
Adamant: Adamant is a semi-crystalline rock (resembling unusually pure snow white quartz) of surpassing hardness. It is twice as hard as marble, with a density of 2.8 (making it slightly heavier than equivalent marble). It can be cut and polished with difficulty, and makes for beautiful, tough, and expensive walls. Adamant quarries are rare in nature, and exceedingly tough work to mine.
