Setting: Nephyr, Ell'jaret
System: Vicious
Thalia is given a message by a member of the Kourier Kids Guild, that someone wishes to hire her. She arranges to meet in a beaten down warehouse, unaware that there is divine power influencing the when and where.
A silver-haired child (age 9-10) is born on a shoulders of six strong men (on a litter). He stops at the same warehouse that Thalia arranged for, walks inside for less than a minute, and leaves. Jace, Nejh and Sand witness this.
Thalia finds a space in the warehouse to hide in.
Jace also hides.
Nejh and Sand enter and begin investigating the warehouse. The doors opens again and they try to hide. Nejh fails horribly, but Sand is nowhere to be seen.
Two yellow-robed mages (nervous and twittery) enter the warehouse.
Katal walks into the warehouse to see what is going on (as she is arriving to meet with Sand to hand out).
A mage (name unknown) enters the warehouse and postures a lot. He tries to send Katal away (he does not wish to fight with an aien), but ends up getting in a fight with the numerous mages collected in the building. He flees.
The yellow mages and Thalia leave quickly. Too many people.
The rest discuss the situation.
Nejh analyzes the altar stone in the warehouse and determines that it has been used in conjunction with biomancy magic, and that the color of the stone comes from human blood.
Jace uses divination to see into the past. He sees the silver-haired child walk in and wave his arm, then walk out a short while before. He looks further into the past and sees (midnight of New Year's Eve) the sacrifice happening. The mage who was in the warehouse is one of the murderers.
The group (sans Thalia) discusses this in the safety of Sand's tumbledown home.
The group splits up.
Jace finds Thalia and tells her what they know. Thalia decides to investigate on her own. Sand watches the warehouse. Nejh goes out to work the streets. Katal goes home to eat a real meal with her parents.
Thalia talks to the murderous mage's guild and asks them to give him a message to look for her at the Feathered Kitten.
Thalia sneaks into the Merchant's Quarter, in the housing district, and finds the unknown mage's home. She sneaks onto the roof and lies in wait for him to come home.
Katal takes over Sand's watch on the warehouse. Sand heads out to do some work.
Jace and Nejh sleep.
Katal sees the unknown mage fly out of the warehouse, straight up. She puts a magical tracer on him. He heads north.
Thalia, in a serendipitous fit of suspicion, looks up and sees the unknown mage coming down out of the sky. She dives for the chimney and manages to get hidden just in time. He lands on the roof and enters the door. After he is gone, she crawls back out onto the roof.
Sand takes over Katal's watch on the warehouse. Katal heads home to sleep.
Nejh heads out. He has become determined to get rich, and is looking for more dangerous parties that pay better. Near afternoon, he scores an S&M party that pays 1-3 gold.
Katal and Nejh head out that afternoon to track her tracer. Meanwhile, Thalia is still hiding on the roof. The door clicks, and Thalia jumps back into the chimney (which is now smoking). He and some girl are making out. Katal and Nejh find the mage's house and see him on the rooftop with some girl. They leave. Katal reaches the edge of the Merchant's Quarter and casts a rain spell; freezing rain begins to drop on the couple, and they go back inside. Thalia crawls back out of the smoking chimney, hacks up a lung, and hides from 4 guards who are standing around chatting. Eventually they leave, and she jumps to another rooftop, hoping to avoid similar incidents. Thalia continues to hide out on the other rooftop.
Jace heads out to look for the silver-haired child. He follows the trail of people who saw him pass by for most of the day. Eventually he finds the silver-haired child and tells him pretty much everything that has happened. The child tells Jace that he is also trying to nail the cult, and asks for a continuing exchange of information. Jace agrees, and leaves.
Nejh goes to the party. It is pretty horrible, and is broken up at the last minute by crossbowmen. Nejh blasts the attackers, grabs the party host, and flees (and is rewarded 10 gold for saving the host).
Katal takes over Sand's watch on the warehouse. Jace joins her. Sand goes to bed.
Nejh returns to Sand's home. He joins Katal and Jace.
A light flickers in the warehouse, although they did not see anyone enter. They argue about what to do, and finally hop over to the warehouse and peek in. A new sacrifice is occurring (this time with the other people still at the party when Nejh ran off).
Katal creates a massive ring of ice spikes in the air above the cultists' heads (10 power = 1200 pounds) and Nejh generates downward kinetic force (20 power = 160 mph) to drive it through them. Ultimately, this also drives it through the floor into the sewers below, causing a shockwave through the street and warehouse. The warehouse collapses, and a massive crack appears in the street outside. Two walls fall down from adjacent warehouses. The sinkhole fills with sewage. Nejh falls unconscious from the strain of his spell.
The heroes retreat. Katal carries the other two and rides the wind away.
Jace returns later to loot the bodies. He finds two of the party goers' bodies are missing, and the other bodies have already been looted. One of the bodies has not been looted - it had 4 silver, 8 copper and a magical ring of some sort.
Jace and Katal go to sleep. Nejh remains blissfully unconscious.
