I challenged myself with the following rules for this page:

  1. Strict HTML/XHTML and CSS. I followed the rules as I found them.
  2. Strict separation of content and presentation. The bold tag is hanging around, but is next on my axe list.
  3. Tables are to be used only for presenting tabular data, not for formatting. And if you are seeing the page in a CSS-compliant browser, yes, that's with no fricking tables.
  4. Correct use of the "id" and "class" tags.
  5. Graceful degradation for older browsers.
  6. Following some of the more important accessibility guidelines, including the ability to skip the navigational section.
  7. Easy to edit in the future. I'm testing a few ideas with that, including abuse of server-side includes to break the HTML into smaller, manageable chunks. A happy side effect has been ease of rearranging. I've experimented with moving whole sections around, just by cutting and pasting a single line of text.
  8. When I go by just 'seasong' online, I sometimes get mistaken for a girl. This page should correct that (well, perhaps not).
